Investigating Cultural Contact

Today we started class with a reading of a picture book, yes, that's right, a picture book. John Marsden wrote a book called "The Rabbits" (illustrated by Shaun Tan) that provides the indigenous perspective of colonialism.

We then split into groups and researched different groups impacted by cultural contact with the European peoples. Students then presented their findings to the class. We investigated the Beothuk of Newfoundland, the Blackfoot of North America, the Polynesians, the Aztechs, the Mayans, the tribes of Sierra Leone and the Maori of New Zealand.

We saw half of the presentations and will view the other half tomorrow. Well done today!
